PATTERN IN CHAOS

Every time I design a home, an office or any space there is this utopian craving, wishing that I could expand and elasticize the space by adding a few more inches. Though that fancy never really worked out what but I would want to share with you today are some tips to ways on how a small space could be hacked with clever designing to expand it's function to the brim.

In metropolitan cities, specially in the likes of Mumbai, living space is expensive and the available space has to be used creatively & effectively maximizing the utility. Simple briefs can often be harder than complex ones, but in this case the design team Intento, under the young lead of the principals Suvarna and Mandar Joshi, took up the challenge and came up with a comfortable decor where neutral colours where used to all moveable objects like side tables, cushions, paintings, photo frames and artifacts. Instead of the commonly used foldable furniture, see-through, elevated furniture were designed so that it does not obstruct the vision thus triumphing well over the space constraint.

Like in this design, playfulness of vibrant accessories can be used in the small footprint of even a 470 square-foot apartment to add brisk and drama to it. Every inch of the space should be efficiently used incorporating all the functional requirements collaborated with trim aesthetics. In a tight space the the trick would be the balance of all design elements put together in tandem to look dapper as well as cater to the dynamics of all functions.

The steps to designing a small space, with the feel of amazing expanse, is to carefully consider the space, purposefully design and position the furniture and derive space efficient solutions integrating each element to form a part of the larger design as has been successfully implemented and accomplished in the design we discussed today. So go ahead, get your creatives ticking and expand your living space.

Modern Urban home, with top of the line, international, designer furniture will definitely create a hole in my pocket! I wake up with a dream and a nightmare together every time I think of redecorating my home. So one day I decided to triumph over my fears and dived headlong into some online research. What I found there was an amazing online store that works hand in hand with design and budget.

Without having to pay a fortune for it, Home & Hearth is an online store, (https://www.handh.in/) that curates, sells and customizes best of international, furniture designs with focus on modern and mid-century-modern classics that are categorized under seating, storage tables and desks.

When I chanced on them I was suspicious that whether in my shopping spree with them I would be delivered the promises or be rudely surprised with fatal invoices. So I decided to dig a bit more and found that cutting out the middle man, they curate iconic, furniture, design pieces from specialist manufactures, which currently do not hold 'product design specific registration', and after having passed through rigorous quality tests H&H incorporates them in their inventory thus passing the benefit of affordable, designer-furniture to the end user.

Some of my favourites were Eero Saarinen's distinctive 78-inch Oval table, Norman Cherner's molded plywood dining chair and last but not the least, the mid-century classic, Eames RAR molded plastic rocking chair which was first presented at the Museum of Modern Art in 1948.

As I type away my words to share this experience with you, on a lighter note, I am strongly contemplating visiting them online again, hoping dearly, to source a designer beanbag for my little, furry, pooch, who loves to curl up near my working table to join me in my labour of blogging expression.

As I glide around my home, my restless spirit can never relax in peace till I keep making regular changes in the decor. Every time I make a change I know I cannot just pick up my shopping bag and dig a hole in my pocket so I decide to work around some modules of rearranging, de-cluttering and revamping till I work out some cost free decor math. This lead me to fashioning a couple of easy guidelines that I would like to share with you.

#Enhance the Visual Impact
Add a frisky and playful style to your home by colour-coding your sofas and cushions. The foot rug can add to the style of the arrangement. Coordinating with the sofa and cushions you can opt for a vibrant organic texture or a muted geometric earthy texture.

#Mix up the surfaces
To freshen up the look of your home and add a touch of briskness and zing you can work on the the layout of the photo-frames and wall frames. For a boho and a bold yet casual look you can stack up the frames in an asymmetrical manner on a counter top. If you are a stickler for a coordinated, orthodox look then you could go for an equidistant, in-line wall arrangement.

#Clear Off Counters and Clutter
This would definitely involve moving out most of the things that you hold dear, would like to display all of them, thus landing in a visual discord and clutter. This would mean merciless un-cluttering and a counter free of products except a couple that have a charming disposition and fit well into the entirety of your ambience. Focussing a light on your new arrangement can sure add sprite to the new look.

#Add style your Coffee and Side tables
Coffee Tables, side tables and centre table are the spaces that when dressed well adds to the look of your home. Start with something large and wonderful in the middle and then build out from that. You could try a huge bowl filled with something interesting, or an engaging floral arrangement or an amusing composition of some fun and quirky elements. The trick is to make it interesting and change it regularly.

#Elevate the height of the curtains
We are always coveting to create more volume and extravagance to our home space and the smartest way to achieve that is by creating an illusion of taller ceilings and larger windows by hanging the curtain from as high as possible thus giving the room a bigger feel.

With the onset of the festive season I will be doing a big bit of de-cluttering and rearranging myself to give my home a new spunk to gear up for fun and celebrations. Incase you want to give in to the temptations of the shopping goblins go ahead and do it, but of course don't forget to ask yourself how you would fit it in your space before you buy it.
