I am always on the search for design, lifestyle, travel and home stories but rarely do I chance upon a story that qualifies for all these check points.

Far from the madding crowd, retaining a distinct vintage architecture, this 100 year old restored Portuguese family home, in Goa, doubles up for a B&B to experience Goa in a unique way. A quaint ambiance, home-cooked food, thoughtful personalized service and of course free Wifi makes this restored graceful villa a life and travel experience.

Turiya started with Architect Sandesh Prabhu stumbling on this stunning property in a charming village named Canacona, in 2010. Canacona is a village in Goa surrounded with enchanting beaches like Palolem/ Patnem/ Galjibag/ Agonda and along with more than 1000 acres of the Cotigao wildlife sanctuary, fringing this area, Turiya is a winner lifestyle experience. For one year Sandesh spent his undivided attention along with his team to restore this villa and finally on the new year of 2011 he opened the gates to his friend and family. This sparked the idea to open up the house for tourists and to give them an indigenous tour of the unexplored Goan charm- thus Turiya was born (http://turiyavilla.com/).

Turiya is spread out on 15,000 square feet of landscaped area, dotted with Chikoo, Coconut, Mango, Avocado, Frangipani and Bougainvillea. This five bedroom delightful villa was a 100 year old mud-house approximately 7,500 square feet after the resurrection. It has a distinctive Portuguese style architecture (influence of Neo-Classic and Neo-Gothic styles) with its sloping Mangalore tiled roof (a necessity for the long and fierce coastal monsoons) and large, charming, covered porches and verandas facing the street bordered by ornamental columns that continue along the steps and add stature to the house. Bright yellow welcoming main entrance, large ornamental Portuguese windows with stucco moulding opening onto verandas, front doors flanked by pilaster, lush emerald green lawns, lounging bar and relaxed sit outs make Turiya a fascinating boutique getaway right in the middle of an all touristy area, fully equipped with all kind of services right from Airport pick up to organizing two wheelers, planning day tours, recommending things to do, places to eat at, where to shop, till airport drop.

Integrating old and new, a home in a hotel, Turiya is a modern country style, fully equipped, villa with a vintage spirit, a relaxed personality and luxury of space. Kudos to Architect Sandesh Prabhu for not keeping this beautiful space, he designed, to himself and opening it out to the world to experience this retreat of calm where a sprawl of over 15000 square feet is shared by only 8 to 10 people at any given time.
