Haveli in a Mumbai apartment

Haveli in a Mumbai apartment is quite unbelievable!
We all know Haveli, as huge private mansions where traditional elements and unique architecture   blends into the lifestyle of the family with a grandiose decor style. Materials, textures, colours, forms and objects distinctly dovetail together to represent the definite characteristic of the bygone era. Today I will talk about an example which has imbibed a set of characteristics that subtly represent the Haveli personality.

#Patterned Flooring
Patterned floors, especially made from stone and marble are a unique feature of the Haveli style. It can be essentially replicated with ceramic tiles. This floor space of over a 3000 sq ft of foot print is designed in an eclectic combination of colourful ceramic tiles and natural river washed limestone. The understated richness weaves a design of timeless elegance where old world charm meets new world functionality.

# Elevational vintage niches
Courtyards highlighting the good earth feel, used as sit outs for the family to mingle, forms the heart of the Haveli. In the apartment, this element has been adapted in the form of balcony sit outs, with well designed niches, to keep to the traditional essence thus enhancing the ethos of regal heritage.

#Woodwork and Ceramic infuse in kitchen styling
Today doing a modular kitchen is at the back of the palm of any designer but the aim here was to reinvent heritage design elements and integrate them to the overall aesthetics of the design story. Mix of ceramic tiles have been used in the splash back of the kitchen to render a colour pop. A half moon island dressed in a mosaic of ceramic tiles, created with a keen detail to each tile layout,  adds an impeccable balance between exercising restrain and profusion. Ample amount of woodwork with simplified ornate, arched, patterns associate successfully with the Haveli endeavors.

#More Woodwork
Engraved dark wood whisk very well with the Haveli style with ornate doors, carved furniture and pillars that influence a deep set design print of patterned woodwork. In this style there is absolutely no shying away from wood work. Refurbished teakwood, restored antique wooden louvre doors and windows,  has retained the woodwork essence in this apartment and it has been cleverly used in the form of simplified lattice work too.

# Vintage vibrant metals
Warm metals such as brass and copper are used as accents in a lot of Havelis. They are used as hardware on doors, furniture or in lamps and accessories. This smart styling has been well adapted in this modern Haveli apartment design by adding modish brass handles to lend a special flavour to the vintage theme.

#Earthy patterning
The colour schemes of Havelis vary from bright dominating hues to earthy tones. In this design the many hues of turquoise, to its cousin colours of navy blue, green and yellow, paired with neutrals lend an earthy flavour to the whole apartment. Creative wash basins have been custom made with individual artwork  to imbibe the classical, antique art look thus adding a fine-drawn earthy nuance to the entire scheme of design.

Haveli style is exuberant, rich, intricate and cozy. It is best to re-interpret a hint of traditional Indian with contemporary pairing to whip up a covetable style that generously lets you warm up in luxury and timeless elegance.
