A heritage holiday getaway in Marathwada style

Speeding through the Mumbai Pune expressway, as I head towards 300 years of history and magnificence at Fort Jadhavgadh Hotel and Resort, for the weekend, I can't help but wonder if my dreams of soaking in the glory and luxury of the historical Maratha regime will actually come true!?

As I walk up the winding, cobbled, stone steps of the property the urban landscape is quickly wiped off my brow and replaced with a magical mystery that enshrouds the destination and oozes a chest-thumping character of awe-inspiring splendor. It begins with a truly distinguished welcome with trumpeting war-horns, echoing drums and royal ushers.

Fort Jadhavgadh is a very special, historical, luxury destination with captivating architecture that whispers stories of heroic efforts of Pilaji Jhadhavrao (1707), who valiantly fought the Mughals and lived the life of a sharp, loyal warrior. The spatial architectural and design pattern of the fort very well stands testimony of his clever skills and incorporation of traditional Marathwada and defence features in the planning. Sprawled over 25 acres of manicured landscape, this heritage stay offers a gamut of stay options ranging from, the king's own Maharaja Suite near the swimming pool, overlooking the vast landscape, to the Royal tents nestled snug amidst acres of lush green. The Ayurvedic Spa and the Conventional spa both add to the luxurious and regal quotient.

I glide through the vast expanse of the resort, spending a good amount of time basking in the lovely sun and soaking in the colossal spread of green. The meandering pathways lead me to the one of its kind museum that this resort houses.

The Aai museum has been created reviving the fort's horse and elephant stable houses and is the perfect walkthrough to relive history in its herculean opulence.

The gastronomical indulgences are very much in royal tandem as I experience lifestyle at Fort Jadhavgadh with a kingly appetite. Chhajja - the all-day verandah dining flanked with teakwood arches restored from the original ruins, Payatha - the ethnic foothill restaurant, Aangan -  the outdoor courtyard cafe has me spoilt for choices over authentic Marathwada as well as other cuisines. With this experience who wouldn't want to be a royal, at least for a weekend, if not longer!

Characterized by gorgeous stone structures, restored heritage fabric, scenic surroundings, interesting courtyards and corners, this resort successfully engages one's attention with never a dull moment to waste. To addd to this there is a fun range of activities and adventure sports ranging from trekking amidst galloping deers, cycling through an emerald green-scape, traditional activities in Maratha style, karaoke at the open-air foothills and more fun.

I started off this experience by wondering would it be.....
and ended with being sure that this truly kingly getaway will be etched in my travelogues forever. I was spoilt for lifestyle choices like a true Royal.

Would I indulge in an encore?
Most definitely!
